Multidisciplinary Diabetes Care: The Future of Evidence-Based Diabetes Management
Why a multidisciplinary approach matters
Diabetes mellitus is far more than elevated blood sugar. It is a complex metabolic disease that can affect the heart, kidneys, blood vessels, eyes, nerves, and many other organs. Successful diabetes management therefore requires more than prescribing medication—it requires coordinated, evidence-based care delivered by a multidisciplinary team.
At Elpis Medical Centre, we believe that every patient deserves comprehensive, personalized care based on the latest international scientific evidence and clinical guidelines.
Evidence-Based Medicine at every step
Our clinical decisions are guided by recommendations from internationally recognized organizations, including:
- American Diabetes Association (ADA)
- European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD)
- European Society of Cardiology (ESC)
- Kidney Disease: Improving Global Outcomes (KDIGO)
Rather than using a “one-size-fits-all” approach, we individualize treatment according to each patient’s medical history, cardiovascular risk, kidney function, body weight, lifestyle, and personal goals.
A multidisciplinary team under one roof
One of the greatest advantages of Elpis Medical Centre is the close collaboration between multiple medical specialties.
Our diabetes team includes:
+ Specialist Diabetologist & Endocrinologist
Providing expert diagnosis and management of:
- Type 1 Diabetes
- Type 2 Diabetes
- Gestational Diabetes
- Prediabetes
- Obesity and metabolic syndrome
- Thyroid and endocrine disorders
+ Clinical Laboratory
Fast, reliable on-site laboratory diagnostics are essential for modern diabetes care. Our laboratory performs:
- HbA1c
- Blood glucose
- Oral Glucose Tolerance Test (OGTT)
- Lipid profile
- Kidney function
- Liver function
- Urine albumin
- Thyroid function
- Comprehensive metabolic investigations
+ Family Medicine
Our family physicians ensure continuity of care by coordinating long-term follow-up, preventive medicine, vaccinations, and chronic disease management.
+ Ophthalmology
Regular diabetic eye screening allows early detection and treatment of diabetic retinopathy, helping preserve vision.
+ Vascular Surgeon
Diabetes significantly increases the risk of vascular disease. Early assessment can prevent serious complications. Our vascular specialist provides:
- Peripheral arterial disease assessment
- Diabetic foot circulation evaluation
- Venous disease management
- Chronic wound assessment
- Prevention of limb-threatening complications
+ Cardiology
Because cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of death in people with diabetes, comprehensive cardiovascular assessment and prevention are essential components of diabetes care.
Modern Diabetes Technology
Medicine is evolving rapidly, and so is diabetes care. We integrate modern technologies including:
- Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM)
- Ambulatory Glucose Profile (AGP) analysis
- Time in Range (TIR) assessment
- Smart insulin technologies
- Advanced glucose pattern interpretation
- Personalized therapeutic decision-making
These tools allow earlier intervention, improved glucose control, and better long-term outcomes.
Modern Evidence-Based Therapies
Recent advances have transformed diabetes treatment beyond glucose control. Today’s therapies also aim to:
- Protect the heart
- Preserve kidney function
- Reduce cardiovascular risk
- Support sustainable weight loss
- Improve quality of life
Treatment is individualized using the latest evidence-based medications when clinically appropriate, including modern GLP-1 receptor agonists, dual GIP/GLP-1 receptor agonists, SGLT2 inhibitors, and advanced insulin therapies.
Our Commitment
At ELPIS our mission is simple:
Through close collaboration between our diabetologist, vascular surgeon, clinical laboratory, family physicians, cardiologist, ophthalmologist, and the rest of our multidisciplinary team, we strive not only to control diabetes—but to prevent complications, improve long-term health, and enhance every patient’s quality of life.
Because modern diabetes care is not about treating blood sugar alone—it’s about caring for the whole person.
